Year 7

Food Technology

  • The names of equipment you have used and their uses e.g. Scales- to weigh ingredients.
  • Health and Safety in the kitchen
  • What’s the difference between baking, grilling and frying?
  • What products would you produce in an oven?

Product Design

  • The name of tools and equipment that we have used and their uses.
  • Health and safety in the workshop.
  • How do we safely use the pillar drill, fret saw and belt sander?
  • Examples of a soft wood, hard wood and manufactured wood.
  • What does MDF stand for?
  • Why do we have packaging and what is normally included on it?
  • The meanings of key words: Aesthetics, Function, Safety, Materials, Annotation, Mood Board.

Textiles

  • The names of tools and equipment that we have used and their uses.
  • The different parts of the sewing machine.
  • The different stitch types.
  • What does upcycling mean?
  • Examples of materials that use synthetic and natural fibres and the difference between the two types of fibre. Difference between natural and synthetic fibres and example materials.

Year 8

Food Technology

  • The names of equipment you have used and their uses e.g. Scales- to weigh ingredients.
  • What is an eat well plate and what information is normally on it?
  • Find examples of food for each section of an eat well plate.
  • What is a balanced main meal?

Product Design

  • The name of tools and equipment that we have used and their uses e.g. Belt Sander- to remove rough edges.
  • How do we safely and accurately use the pillar drill?
  • Common types of wood, metal and plastic.
  • What is a specification and what does it contain?
  • The meanings of key words: Aesthetics, Function, Safety, Materials, Annotation, Mood Board.
