We have created a new scheme of work for the start of the 2009/10 academic year. The scheme includes modules in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with a greater emphasis on 'How Science Works'.
For further details, see the Year 7 and Year 8 individual pages, or go to the DfES Secondary Science Standards site.
In Year 9 and Year 10 most students follow the AQA 'Science A' specification. In Year 11 most follow the AQA ‘Additional Science' specification and some students will go on to sit 3 separate GCSEs: AQA 'Biology', AQA 'Chemistry' and AQA 'Physics'.
Some Year 11 students are working towards the Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Applied Science. This combines equal proportions of the 3 sciences. It is a vocational course, incorporating more practical aspects of science. Students are assessed on their coursework and practical skills: There are no written examinations. A pass is the equivalent of 2 GCSE grade Cs, a merit is the equivalent of 2 GCSE grade Bs.
Some Year 10 students are working towards the Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science. This combines equal proportions of the 3 sciences. It is a vocational course, incorporating more practical aspects of science. Students are assessed on their coursework and practical skills: There are no written examinations. For further details, see the GCSE Scheme of Work page.
The following specifications are currently followed as AS/A level: AQA GCE AS/A ‘Biology (2410)’, AQA AS/A ‘Physics A (2450)’ and AQA AS/A ‘Chemistry (2420)’.
